NEGAUNEE — On April 3, a cannabis company opened its first retail location in the Upper Peninsula.

Lume Cannabis Co. is now open for business on US-41 in Negaunee. Lume is a vertically integrated cannabis company. Their product is grown here in Michigan for medical and adult use.

President and COO Doug Hellyar says the company is excited to finally bring their services to the Upper Peninsula.

“We couldn’t be happier to be in the U.P. and opening our first store in Negaunee,” said Hellyar. “Our manager and our 13 employees have been training and preparing and getting the store ready for several months, so we’re just thrilled to finally be able to open and serve the market in the U.P.”

Hellyar says it’s been a unique experience opening a new location in the midst of a pandemic. Lume looks forward to when the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” executive order is lifted and consumers will be able to come into the store, but for now, they are offering curbside service to their customers.

“Our number one responsibility is to comply with ‘Stay Home, Stay Safe,'” said Hellyar, “and the way we’re able to do that is curbside service. We feel fortunate that we’ve been identified as an essential business and that we’re able to continue to serve with highest priority those medical patients.”
