MARQUETTE — A generous donation from one of Marquette’s most selfless organizations will go a long way for the community. The Rotary Club of Marquette made a donation of $25,000 to the Marquette YMCA to help build a youth center. The donation came in part from funds raised during the Rotary’s annual golf outing.

“This past year was our biggest accomplishment ever, we netter $50,000 dollars that we’re going to give back to the community today. Our whole goal is to engage the community, give back, and do things that we can to help support and make it a better place for all of us to live here in Marquette,” said Michele Butler, Chairperson for the Marquette Rotary Golf Outing.

The YMCA has been without a youth center for three years. Instead, a locker room that doesn’t even have running water.

“Our community needs a place for those children to be able to go, for birthday parties, before and after school, and all kinds of programs, just a place for kids to go,” said Jenna Zdunek, CEO of the Marquette YMCA.

The YMCA is close to being able to fund the project, and hopes to begin construction next year.
