Delegation to Japan looking for more people

MARQUETTE–There are still spots open to join a delegation traveling to Marquette’s sister city Higashiomi in October.

Delegates stay in host homes and are taken care of completely by the sister city. Over the 12-day trip they will be exposed to Japanese art, culture, food and even get a day trip to Kyoto.

Organizers of the delegation say it is a learning experience.

“And that is the purpose of the trip,” said Paulette Lindberg, co vice–president of the Marquette Area Sister Cities Partnership. “To have a good exchange of information about how someone in another country lives and what they’re lifestyle is like.”

Lindberg says that they are looking for delegates who understand they are not taking a vacation but learning about another culture. Being able to speak Japanese is not required, but it would help and basic phrases are taught to delegates.
