Trillium House construction on schedule

MARQUETTE — The construction on the first hospice house in the central Upper Peninsula is on schedule.

The Trillium House is on track for occupancy in June and to start welcoming residents in July. Executive Director Pat Bray said that he worked with Omega House in Houghton to implement crucial amenities that Omega House lacks, such as a conference room.

All eight rooms at Trillium House face the back of the lot, which has trees and opportunity for a garden. The rooms are also larger than standard hospice house rooms.

“We made sure we designed the rooms big enough that one to two families members can stay with the resident during their time with us,” said Bray. “We know some people will be travelling quite a ways to come here, so we want to make sure that they don’t have to feel it’s a commute that they have to do every day.”

After construction is complete, the building will be wired, so family members can work while watching over their loved ones. Trillium House is offering tours to the public on Thursdays at noon and 4:00 p.m.

Bray said Trillium House is depending on volunteers and donations to keep operating costs lower. The hospice house is also looking to staff four to six full-time employees, including a nurse’s aide.
