Iron Rangers announce special guest for season opener

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Iron Rangers held their first open tryouts this past weekend and it was a great turnout.

Hockey hopefuls took to the ice at the Berry Events Center for a chance to be on the roster for the team’s reincarnation. General Manager Robert Airaudi also announced that the opening night for the Iron Rangers will feature a special guest…the Hanson Brothers from the movie “Slapshot”.

“It’s taken about six months to get everything going and get everything ready with them, but it was well worth it. They are the greatest people. And on November 7th we’re going to retire their Iron Rangers jerseys. So they’re pretty excited, as we are,” Airaudi said.

The team will hold a second tryout on August 29th. The season opener will be at Lake View Arena on November 6th against the Calumet Wolverines.
