Carpenter receives voluntary manslaughter sentence
Jack Carpenter of Ishpeming will spend at least nine years and two months behind bars. He was sentenced today in Marquette County Circuit Court.
Carpenter will serve seven years and two months to 15 years for voluntary manslaughter, and two years for firearm possession during the commission of a felony. He’ll serve the two terms consecutively.
Carpenter has been credited with 510 days served, and he has to pay more than $400 in court fines and costs.
He was originally charged with open murder in connection with the June 2012 shooting death of David Meyer, Jr. Meyer was killed in the Ishpeming house that the two men shared. Carpenter had a week-long trial at the end of September and the beginning of October.
