MTU’s Copley earns WCHA award
Michigan Tech University sophomore goaltender Phoenix Copley has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week.
The Huskies goalie had a terrific weekend between the pipes against Northern Michigan University. He stopped 45 of the 48 shots that he faced against the Wildcats in their two game series.
Copley recorded a .938 save percentage against NMU. He only allowed one power-play goal in twelve man-advantage opportunities. Michigan Tech split their two game series against Northern Michigan.
The Wildcats won the first game, 2-0, on Oct. 25 in Marquette. Michigan Tech won their first game of the season, 4-1, against NMU on Oct. 26 in Houghton.
Copley and the Huskies will play two games later this week at the University of Michigan against the Wolverines. Puck drop is set for 7:35 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1. and at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2.
