Symetra Tour’s future in the U.P.
Its no secret that golf fans throughout the Upper Peninsula have enjoyed the LPGA Symetra Tour’s stop at the Sweetgrass Golf Club in Harris the last three years.
Each tournament has gone down to the wire, including the most recent Island Resort Championship, which needed sudden death to determine a winner.
The three-year contract at the Island Resort Casino had with the Symetra Tour ended on June 30. Symetra Tour officials have not publicly discussed whether or not they will continue to bring a tournament to the U.P.
But all signs point towards a possible new contract between both sides. If it were up to the players, the decision is an easy one to make. They would prefer coming back to the Sweetgrass Golf Club each and every year.
“I love this course. The fairways are so lush and the greens and the greens roll great. Harris is really great to us. We feel really welcome here and we just appreciate everyone’s support,” said Britney Hamilton, a golfer on the LPGA Syemtra Tour.
“The Island Resort (Casino) does a great job to host us and we all enjoy this event,” said Alejandra Llaneza, a golfer on the tour.
The Hannahville Tribe has 30 days to decide whether or not they would like to negotiate a new contract with the Symetra Tour.
The Symetra Tour will release its 2014 schedule later this year.
