Dogs help kids with reading

Learning to read is not easy for all children.  Many need a little extra incentive. For some children, when they read aloud to dogs, they can build more confidence in reading.

The Peter White Public Library hosts “Dog Nights At The Library” in the children’s area.  It gives kids a chance to read to therapy dogs.  Several dogs are brought to the library to listen to the readers.

Reading to dogs gives kids a chance to gain confidence while reading, and a chance to see a familiar face.  Kelly December and her two dogs, Dually and Dora come every week.  Kelly says the dogs enjoy it.

Dog Nights At The Library runs in six-week sessions.  They take place in the children’s area of the library from 6 until 7–30 on Thursday evenings.  The current session runs through February 28th.
