ST. IGNACE — There will be early morning closures at the Mackinac Bridge on Wednesday, June 27th.

Painting contractors will be moving two large scaffolding platforms from the north tower. The first will be moved at 5 A.M., while the second will be moved at 6:15 A.M. These are both expected to be 30–minute closures.

The equipment change is part of a two–season, $6.3 million project by contractor Seaway Painting to repaint the bridge’s north tower. The project marks the first time in the bridge’s 60–year history of one of the iconic ivory towers being stripped down to bare metal and repainted.
