Huskies volleyball team wins at Urbana

URBANA, Ohio — Michigan Tech improved to 7-8 overall with a 3-0 non-conference victory tonight at Urbana. The Huskies defeated the Blue Knights from Division II’s Mountain East Conference by scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-18.

Tech used a balanced team attack to finish their three-match road trip to Ohio with a 2-1 record. Twelve different Huskies played in the match, and five had six kills or more.

Freshman Lauren Emmert continued her strong play with eight kills on just 13 attempts. Noelle Eveland posted seven kills, while Aubrey Havlichek, Sylvie Rokosh and Stephanie Dietrich notched six apiece.

Rachel Pohlod and Rosie Aumann shared the setter duties and recorded 19 and 15 assists, respectively. Jacqueline Aird had a team-high 12 digs.

“I thought we looked good tonight,” said coach Matt Jennings. “It’s been a long trip, and to cap it off with a win like we had tonight feels good.

“Rachel and Rosie ran the offense very well for us. Our middles did great. Noelle stepped up big too.

“We grew a lot as a team on this trip. With two 3-0 wins and a 2-3 nail-biter loss, I think we return to the UP having gotten better.”

Michigan Tech plays host to a pair of GLIAC opponents at the SDC Gym this weekend. First up is Tiffin, which comes in Friday (Oct. 10) for a 5 p.m. first serve.
