Commission discusses improving water, promoting tourism

A number of items were discussed at Marquette’s City Commission meeting Monday night.

Two items on the agenda included ways to improve water and use land to promote tourism.

There were presentations that showed ways to make sure Marquette stays on track with water quality, and making Marquette an official ‘Trail Town’.

“This is primarily for the North Country National Scenic Trail, but of course, once someone is on that most of the other trails inter-connect with it,” North County Trail Association member Lorana Jinkerson said.  “So then they can go on to Noquemanon trail from there to the Marquette bike trail, any of the trails that are in the area.”

The Commission also heard information on a storm water, asset management wastewater (SAW) grant.

“(The SAW Grant) is used to improve storm water, to look at our software programming so they can have the tools to make good decisions, commissioned with good data for good decision making going on to the future,” Waste Water Superintendent Curt Goodman said.

The proposed presentations were approved, as well as all of the pending appointments.

The following people were appointed at the meeting:

  • Steve Lawry, Planning Commission representative on the Board of Zoning Appeals
  • Heidi Gould, Peter White Public Library Board of Trustees
  • Craig Ekstrum, Sustainable Community Ad Hoc Committee
  • Reilly Coombs, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee
  • Chloe Wilkinson, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee
