Phillips signs two-year deal with Jets
HOUGHTON — The Winnipeg Jets announced on Saturday that they have signed former Huskies goaltender Jamie Phillips to a two–year entry–level NHL contract.
Phillips says he is happy to finally get a shot and he will work hard to move up the depth chart.
“They are a team on the up and up, that’s for sure. The thing that drew me towards them was that they were the team that drafted me and I was there for four years and they treated me fantastic for all four of those years. I knew when they made the offer that this was the place I wanted to be,” Phillips said.
The 23–year–old had a stellar career at Michigan Tech, as he finished his four years as the Huskies all–time shutouts leader with 10. During his senior year, he posted a 1.97 goals against average and a 92.2 save percentage, on his way to being named the WCHA Outstanding–Student Athlete.
“A lot of really good hockey players have come out of the hockey ranks at Tech. I hope that one day I can be another one of those players that’s playing in the NHL and is able to represent Tech and make everyone in the school and the organization and the community proud,” said Phillips.
The deal is worth an average annual value of $675,000.
