Single-car crash in Negaunee Township under investigation

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department says alcohol is believed to be a factor  in a single vehicle accident Monday night.  It happened about 10:55 p.m. on County Road 510 in Negaunee Township.

Authorities say 53 year old Joseph Mackey of Negaunee was operating a 2000 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck northbound on CR 510, about a half mile north of Hardwood Lane, when he drove off the east side of the road and hit a tree.

A deputy patrolling that area came upon the crash.

Mackey was taken to Marquette General Hospital when he was treated and released for head injuries.

The incident is still under investigation. Several other agencies assisted at the scene, including the Michigan State Police, Marquette County Rescue 131, Marquette General Hospital E.M.S and the Negaunee Township Fire.

Police are investigating a crash that took place late Monday night on County Road 510.

The accident happened about a half mile north of Harwood Lane just before 11:00 p.m. A 53-year-old Negaunee man was traveling north on CR-510 when he lost control of his pick–up truck, went off the road and struck a tree.

The driver was transported to Marquette General Hospital and police say that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

Assisting the investigation at the scene was the Negaunee Sheriff’s Department, the Michigan State Police, Marquette General Hospital E.M.S and the Negaunee Township Fire and Rescue 131.
