UPDATE 5:57 p.m.
The Iron Mountain Post Office and Ludington Street have re-opened after closing for about four hours Tuesday afternoon due to an unattended briefcase.
The Iron Mountain Police Department says they were dispatched to the post office just before 1:30 Tuesday afternoon after a briefcase was left in the lobby.
U.S. Postal Inspectors were called and were at the scene when the owner of the briefcase returned around 4 p.m. It was determined that the briefcase posed no threat. As a precaution, the post office and Ludington Street were closed.
The Iron Mountain Department of Works assisted at the scene with barricades for traffic control.
There’s no word at this hour as to when the Iron Mountain post office – and a road near it – will reopen.
Authorities say the post office was evacuated and Ludington Street closed today after an unattended briefcase was found at the facility.
