DNR biologists honored
Three Department of Natural Resources wildlife biologists have been honored by Michigan United Conservation Clubs (MUCC) as Conservationists of the Year.
Adam Bump, Brian Roell and Dean Beyer were honored by the state’s largest conservation consortium at its annual convention for the work they did to make this fall’s first wolf-hunting season a possibility.
“MUCC appreciates the time and commitment of these three biologists into making the much-anticipated wolf season a reality,” said Amy Trotter, resource policy manager for MUCC. “They have provided the scientific rigor necessary to uphold the Proposal G promise to the state of Michigan that wildlife be managed through sound science.”
Bump, who works out of Lansing, is the DNR’s furbearer specialist. Roell, who works out of Marquette, is the wolf specialist. Beyer, who works out of Marquette, is the state’s lead researcher on predator-prey relations.
“I can’t think of anyone more deserving that Brian, Adam and Dean,” said DNR Wildlife Division Chief Russ Mason. “All three do excellent work, and their professional and personal lives are consumed by the protection and wise use of our natural resources.
