Car wash to benefit soldiers
A Marquette business is raising money this weekend for area soldiers and the units in which they serve.
Superior Express Care and Wash is holding a benefit on Saturday, July 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The proceeds will go to the U.S. Army Reserve 652nd Engineer Company in Harvey, and the Michigan National Guard 107th Engineer Battalion in Ishpeming.
“I’m involved with one of the soldiers in the 652nd unit, and I’ve been familiar with them for the last three years, and it came to my attention that they need funds raised for the family fun day activities and their family support programs,” said Anna Dravland, who is organizing the car wash.
A $10 donation will buy food and drink, a car wash, and an entry into prize raffles. The business will also donate $10 for every person who buys an oil change that day.
“I was really, really impressed with how well they took it, it was originally for the 652nd, and they kind of encouraged and had the idea of spreading it across to more, so that’s when we found the two active military units,” Dravland said.
Soldiers from the two units will join other volunteers to help wash the cars and cook the food.
