“The Crucible” at Kaufman Auditorium
The Marquette Senior High School Drama Club is getting ready for its next production.
It’s one of the best-known American plays ever written.
“The Crucible” is a dramatic version of the Salem witch trials.
Arthur Miller wrote it in the 1950s, using the religious hysteria of late-1600s Massachusetts to criticize McCarthyism during the Cold War.
Sam Carter, who plays Mary Warren in the production, likes how each character has a different motive for his or her actions.
Marianne Nezich says her character, Elizabeth Proctor, initially comes across as a very cold, uncaring person, but as the plot develops, she and her husband John reconcile as a result of the witch hunt.
The drama club performed Act One of the play this morning at Kaufman Auditorium as a dress rehearsal of sorts.
English classes from MSHS were there to watch.
The performances are at Kaufman Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $12 each for adults and $6 for students or seniors.
