Niagara plans huge 2014 Centennial Celebration
Niagara, Wis. – “A Celebration of Celebrations” is what City of Niagara Mayor George Bousley is calling Niagara’s 2014 tribute to its 100 years of existence. The major event will take place Wednesday, June 25, through Sunday, June 29, 2014.
The celebration will feature national, regional, and local recording and music artists on a main stage, a second music stage, a giant carnival midway with rides and games, a huge centennial parade, fireworks, softball tournament, food and beverages, a children’s area, a time capsule, centennial souvenirs, arts and crafts area, an all-classes’ high school reunion, centennial ball, and more.
Mayor Bousley, who is also co-chair of the centennial celebration with Brad Butler of the Niagara Lions Club, said the city looks forward to welcoming back people from across the country who grew up in the town, along with entertaining and introducing others from around northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan to the city’s hospitality and showing off the beauty and development that has taken place in Niagara over the years.
Bousley said that many volunteers will be needed from the area for the multitude of jobs and activities that will be carried out over the five days of the centennial celebration and the months leading up to it. He asked that anyone willing to help contact city hall and leave a name and phone number and possibly what the person would be interested in helping with. The city hall number is 715-251-3235.
Committees will be formed for entertainment, food and beverages, setup and take-down, parade staging, children’s area, technical and stagehand support for the music stages, public relations, security, sponsorship, souvenirs, school reunion, centennial ball, softball tournament, costumes, and just helpers in general. Volunteers need not be from Niagara, Bousley emphasized.
Planning is already underway, with a carnival midway under contract, and arrangements being made or soon to be started to secure tenting, sound systems, lighting, electrical needs, food and beverage vendors, fireworks, portable toilets, and much more.
“This is truly going to be the celebration of a lifetime for everyone here in the area,” Mayor Bousley concluded.
