Plane makes emergency landing near Escanaba

Two Gladstone men are safe after making an emergency landing of their airplane on a street in Escanaba.

Pilot Steve Atkins and passenger Donald Poe are both members of the Civil Air Patrol.  At about 8:30 p.m. Monday night, their single–engine Cessna lost power four and a half miles away from the Delta County Airport.

The engine did not have enough power to get them there.  The plane made an emergency landing on Danforth Road, between 30th Street North and the entrance to the Heirman Center at Bay College.

The two men received approval from the Civil Air Patrol to remove the plane.  The plane was on the move late Tuesday afternoon, and should arrive at the Delta County Airport by Tuesday evening for an inspection and possible repairs.

A single engine plane had to make an emergency landing on Danforth Road near North 30th Street just north of Escanaba tonight.

The landing occurred just before 9 p.m.  The Delta County Airport Manger says that the single engine plane had to make an emergency landing due to engine failure.  A portion of Danforth Road was closed until the plane was moved.

The manager said the plane was then pushed into the parking of Bay De Noc Community College.

The Delta County Sheriff’s Department says there are no reports of injuries or damages at this time.  They also say the incident is still under investigation.
