No Explosives Found at North Star Academy

Another bomb threat was called in to North Star Academy in Marquette Township this morning.

No explosives were found.

Students and staff were evacuated when a bomb threat was found this morning.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department says staff members at the school reported the threat shortly after 10:30 this morning.

The threat was contained in a message written on the wall of a bathroom stall.

A bomb–sniffing dog was not available, so sheriff’s deputies and the Marquette Township Fire Department had to wait for a bomb squad to arrive before entering the building.

North Star Academy superintendent Karen Anderson says students were evacuated to the Marq-Tran bus depot on Commerce Drive, where parents picked them up.

She says school buses also went on their normal routes to bring students home.

This is one of many bomb threats reported in the U.P. in the past eight or nine months.

False report or threat of a bomb or harmful device is a felony which carries up to four years behind bars, a $2,000 fine or both.

North Star Academy will open as usual on Monday.
