UPAWS waiving black animal adoption fees for Black Friday and Saturday

GWINN — The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter is holding its first ever Black Friday adoption event this weekend.

On November 29 and 30, UPAWS will be waiving all adoption fees for any black animals adopted. The animal’s fur must be entirely black.

UPAWS Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator Ann Brownell says that the adoption event is a great opportunity for people to take a break from Black Friday shopping and maybe even take home a new furry friend.

“We have a lot of black cats that are kind of shy, so we’re hoping to shine the limelight on those,” said Brownell. “And once they find a home they’ll come out of their shell and blossom. But this way it shines the limelight on them, and maybe everybody could take a break from shopping and come on out to UPAWS to adopt a black or any colored animal!”

If you’d like to see about adopting a black animal this weekend, stop by the UPAWS in Gwinn Friday or Saturday between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. To learn more about UPAWS or to contact the shelter, you can visit their website or their Facebook page.
