Structure fire broke out in city of Ishpeming early Sunday morning

ISHPEMING — A structure fire broke out in the city of Ishpeming early Sunday morning.

Around 4:10 a.m. authorities were called to Saginaw road after a resident awoke to flames in their bedroom.

The resident and pets were able to escape, but transported by UPHS Bell EMS for evaluation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The City of Ishpeming Volunteer Fire Department was on scene along with the Ishpeming Township Fire Department, Ishpeming Police Department, UPHS, UPHS Bell, Semco, and UPPCO.

The Pigs-N-Heat and American Red Cross were contacted for support.
