Out of money, county selling historic lodge

KEWEENAW COUNTY–One historic resort dating back to the 1930’s is now being sold to the government.

Just last May the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge went under new management, in hopes to come out of a deep financial hole.

According to Keweenaw Board Commissioner Don Piche, the Lodge is being told to sell it by the U.S. Department of Rural Agricultural development for $1.5 million.

Piche said the changes are due to the amount of money the county owes the government.

The board received a letter from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Housing Service nearly two weeks ago.

Back in January Piche told ABC 10, he didn’t think a lot of the people actually realized the amount of debt the Lodge was in.
