Tech’s Ritchie named player of the week

BAY CITY, Mich. — Michigan Tech women’s basketball player Jillian Ritchie has been named GLIAC North Division Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks for her performance in two road games last weekend. Tech has had three of the last four GLIAC North Players of the Week.

Ritchie averaged 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 60 percent in the two games. She came within two points of Tech’s school record for scoring with 35 in a 96-90 overtime loss at Northwood last Thursday (Feb. 19). She hit 14-of-22 field goals including 7-of-12 3-point accuracy to go with 10 rebounds vs. the Timberwolves. The 5-11 senior followed up with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists in a 72-61 triumph at Lake Superior State, helping the Huskies clinch the GLIAC crown outright and earn home court advantage throughout the league tournament.

Tech has produced four GLIAC North Players of the Week in 2014-15 with Danielle Blake on Nov. 24 and Feb. 2 and Ritchie on Feb. 9 and Feb. 23.

Michigan Tech, which owns a 23-2 overall record and 19-2 GLIAC slate, will look for 20 wins in league for just the second time in school history (2009-10 was the other) when it wraps up the regular season Thursday (Feb. 26) at rival Northern Michigan. The 5:30 p.m. game will be broadcasted live on Fox UP throughout the Upper Peninsula and several counties in northeast Wisconsin.
