Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley visits Copper Country

Earlier today, Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley made a stop in the Copper Country to talk about job creation and economic growth in the area.

Calley met with a few local lawmakers and business owners at GS Engineering in Houghton and was given a tour of the facility. He says after getting a first-hand look at some of the projects, he came away very impressed.

“It is a great example of the knowledge-based economy that is and has developed across Michigan and is really pronounced here in this vicinity around the SmartZone and Tech and NMU,” Calley said.

After the tour, Calley listened to concerns local businesses have that may not be the same as those downstate. He said the U.P. is essential to the state’s comeback because it has so much to offer.

“Human resources, the talent, together with the natural resources and the economic base here is such that we think that it has the ability to really be a major player,” said Calley.

Among those in attendance were State Representative Scott Dianda and Northern Hardwoods general manager John Kantola.
