MDOT: U.S. 2 reopened, but by no means clear and dry

The Michigan Department of Transportation has reopened U.S. 2 between St. Ignace and Worth Road in Mackinac County.

MDOT crews worked throughout the early morning hours to clear the heavy snow and drifts in the sand dunes areas, though primary roads  throughout the county may be icy and secondary roads snow covered.

Some blowing snow is still being reported in the western areas of the county. Drivers are advised to travel with caution.

MDOT officials warn travelers to be careful when driving and to consider the conditions.

“Roadway open, passable, and safe but by no means clear and dry.”

MDOT closed a 50-mile stretch of U.S. 2 on Friday due to whiteout conditions from I-75 in St. Ignace to M-77.
