The U.P. domestic assault case that has been getting a lot of national attention is inching closer to a trial.
Nima Nassiri, 34, of Dollar Bay was arraigned in Houghton County Circuit Court today on charges of second-degree for the alleged assault of his wife. Senaz Nezami, 27, died days after the incident last month.
In court today, the charges against Nassiri were read by Houghton County Prosecutor Michael Makinen and Judge Charles Goodman. Nassiri chose to stand mute, which allows the court to automatically enter a plea of not guilty.
Both attorneys agreed for a pretrial conference to be scheduled in 30 days. Nassiri will face life in prison if he’s convicted.
