Marquette Co. loses major ambulance service

As communities across the U.P continue to struggle to have enough volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians to staff ambulance runs for basic services, a private company in Marquette County providing Advanced Life Support services appears to be closing.

According to medical and EMS service personnel in the community, MediRide EMS will cease operations this evening.

The company’s Facebook and webpage have been deactivated and MediRide officials have not returned calls to ABC 10 .

This development is a concern to the area’s medical community – and residents.  Marquette General has made the following statement:

“Pertaining to the MediRide closure, MGH has been made aware of this possibility. Therefore, MGH and other Marquette County emergency responders are staffed and equipped to handle all EMS calls. Residents should see no change in either ambulance coverage or response times.”
