Fatal Alger County Crash
Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post and the Munising Detachment are investigating a traffic crash that killed a Munising woman Saturday night.
It happened at about 7 pm on ET Road in Alger County, south of Eben.
Police say 59-year-old Jill Siltala was driving south in a Mazda Tribute when the vehicle left the right side of the roadway.
The driver’s side of her vehicle slammed into a utility pole, breaking the pole.
The vehicle then rolled over before coming to rest right-side-up.
Siltala died at the scene, and rescuers needed the Jaws of Life to remove her body.
She did not have any passengers.
Police say alcohol use appears to have been a factor in the crash.
Rock River Township Fire and EMS, Alger County EMS and UPPCO helped out at the scene.
