The Iron County Sheriff’s Department says it’s very fortunate that no one was hurt when a logging truck and a pickup truck crashed Friday afternoon.

It happened shortly after 12 noon Central time on M-69 in Mansfield Township near Parks Creek.

Police say 28-year-old Jeanine Schira of Stephenson had pulled her pickup truck to the roadside so that she could look into a possible mechanical problem with the truck.

She was pulling a horse trailer at the time.

When she was done looking, she re-entered the eastbound lane of M-69 in the path of an eastbound Brzoznowski Logging truck driven by 35-year-old Michael Brzoznowski of Iron Mountain.

Police say Brzoznowski tried to avoid the pickup truck but couldn’t dodge it, resulting in a front-sideswipe crash.

Brzoznowski lost control, his trailer rolled over, and both the truck and the trailer crashed in the woods well away from the road.

M-69 was closed for about an hour so that the pickup truck and the load of logs could be removed from the road.

Then it was restricted to one lane until about 4 pm while the logging truck and trailer could be removed from the woods.

Crystal Falls Fire and Rescue, Northstar EMS, the Michigan State Police and the Michigan DNR assisted at the crash scene.
