Packers sign RB Benson

The Green Bay Packers have added depth to their running back core, signing RB Cedric Benson yesterday to a 1-year  contract.

The Packers newest player suited up in his new green

and gold attire for the first time earlier this afternoon. Green Bay is hoping that the 8-year NFL veteran can help shore up an already banged up Packers running back group.

James Starks (toe) and Brandon Saine (hamstring) were kept out of practice today. FB John Kuhn injured an ankle late in practice- his status is unknown.

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said that Benson will not be available for Thursday’s preseason home opener against the Cleveland Browns.
