Gulliver Sex Assault Victim Speaks Out

The woman who was sexually assaulted near Gulliver over the weekend has gone public to try to help police catch her attacker.

27–year–old Jenn Gibbons of Chicago was doing a 1,500–mile solo rowing journey around the circumference of Lake Michigan.

The voyage is a fundraiser for a rowing club for breast cancer survivors that she co–founded.

Gibbons was planning to raise $150,000 in donations to buy boats for the group.

She’s been blogging about the trip along the way.

Police say the attacker may have followed her route over the Internet and used the information to plan the assault.

It happened at about 4 am Sunday while her boat was docked near Gulliver.

Michigan State Police believe the suspect is a white male in his 30s between 5’8″ and 6′ tall, with some facial stubble, light–colored eyes and shorter, well–kept hair.

He has an average to athletic build and was wearing a grayish-green T-shirt, denim shorts and tennis shoes.

A bright yellow Jeep Wrangler, similar to the one shown here, was seen in the area.

It has a rear-mounted spare tire with a yellow smiley face on the cover.

If you have more information about either the suspect or the vehicle, the State Police are asking you to call them toll-free at 1-866-411-0018.

Jenn Gibbons has continued writing about the trip and her assault.
