Local Jobs from Marinette Marine Contract

Marinette Marine will soon build some new ships for the U.S. Navy.

The work could be worth upwards of $3 billion.

It’ll directly create more than 500 jobs in Michigan and indirectly create several thousand more.

And Marinette Marine wants U.P. small businesses to get as many of those jobs as they can.

They and the Michigan Procurement and Technical Assistance Center hosted a Small Business Day today at Bay College in Escanaba.

Many of the goods and services that Marinette Marine needs to build a series of 10 Littoral Combat Ships are in the U.P. and northern Wisconsin.

People involved with more than 100 small businesses got to meet with buyers from Marinette Marine and learn what the company would want them to do.

We’ll have more about this tonight at 11 on ABC 10 News Now.
