Alleged Threats Against Manistique City Employees

A Manistique man is in jail, accused of threatening and extorting city employees.

64-year-old Peter Markham faces 10 state felony charges and possible federal charges.

He has a preliminary exam set for February 22nd.

Police arrested Markham yesterday on 7 counts of extortion, 1 count of false report or threat of terrorism and 2 counts of using a computer to commit a crime.

Manistique Public Safety says they’ve been investigating this with the FBI for about a year.

They accuse Markham of making specific threats to the City Manager, the Mayor and City Council members, with some of them being in fear for their lives.

Police say the threats were both verbal and in comments posted on Markham’s website.
