Kincheloe Solider Laid to Rest

AN EASTERN U–P NATIVE KILLED IN AFGHANISTAN IS LAID TO REST TODAY.

An eastern U.P. native killed in Afghanistan is laid to rest today.

24-year-old Army Sgt. Christopher Griffin of Kincheloe died a week ago Saturday.

His funeral service was at the Rudyard Area School this afternoon — he graduated from the school in 2004.

Griffin was based out of Fort Carson, Colorado, with the Army’s 4th Infantry Division.

He and 7 comrades died in Kamdesh, Afghanistan, near the Pakistani border, when nearly 300 Taliban members attacked their outpost.

The battle also left 3 Afghan soldiers dead.

It was one of the heaviest losses of American life in a single battle of the entire war.

Flags have been lowered to half-staff today across Michigan in Griffin’s honor.
