Violas for Kids in Houghton

Studies show that when children learn to play a musical instrument, their overall learning improve.

And in Houghton today, a group of children took their first steps toward a better education.

The viola is known as the middle child of the stringed instruments — larger than a violin but smaller than the cello.

And some say it’s a perfect instrument for children to learn.

A special presentation by the Copper Country Suzuki Association was held to today at the Portage Lake District Library in Houghton to introduce the viola to young children.

After learning about the instrument, the children were given a chance to play one as part of a viola petting zoo.

And this could be the beginning of making beautiful music.
