GLIAC Volleyball: NMU sweeps Tech 3-0

MARQUETTE, Mich. – After falling to Ashland University on Saturday (Sept.
22), the Northern Michigan University volleyball team got back to its
winning ways on Tuesday (Sept. 25) with 3-0 sweep of Michigan Tech in its
home-opener from Vandament Arena. NMU now stands at 11-3 overall and 4-1
in the GLIAC.

The ‘Cats took an early lead in the first set and dominated down the
stretch for a 25-11 win. In the second, the two teams were tied at five
before NMU went on a four point streak and ended up winning 25-11 and 2-0
heading into the break. Set three was all Green and Gold as the ‘Cats led
from start to finish and were able to sub in all available players.

Northern finished with 35 kills on the night, a .355 attack percentage and
five team blocks.

NMU freshman Lisa Studnicka led the team with 10 digs, seven kills and one
assist. Junior Lina Lopes added eight kills and three aces. Senior Jasmine
Calhoun recorded five kills. Junior Kellisha Harley tallied 29 assists for
the ‘Cats and added two aces.

Junior Kalli Herron (4), junior Sarah Hamilton (4), senior Bailey Franklin
(3) and senior Andree Ring (2) also got in the kills category.

For the Huskies (5-8 overall, 2-3 GLIAC), Shelby Jones had six kills,
while Aubrey Havlichek had three. Madeline Haben had 15 assists on the
night.

The ‘Cats continue their three-match streak at home as they take on Wayne
State on Friday (Sept. 28) at 7 p.m. and Findlay on Saturday (Sept. 29) at
4 p.m. The Warriors are first in the GLIAC at 5-0 and are 10-3 overall.
The Oilers 6-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
