Newly introduced bill would allow for no-reason absentee voting

LANSING — A bill introduced in the Michigan House of Representatives this week could give some residents a new way to vote.

The Michigan Secretary of State reports that if passed, House Bill 4724 would give voters the option of casting a secure absentee ballot without giving a reason. Voters would apply for and receive the ballot at their city or township clerk’s office after meeting the same identification requirements needed to vote in person.

Twenty seven other states currently offer no–reason absentee voting.
