Man who allegedly shot dog pleads not guilty

An Ishpeming man who allegedly shot a dog has pleaded not guilty to a weapons charge.

William Huot, 62, pled not guilty to careless discharge of a firearm with property damage over $50.

Huot is accused of shooting an eight-year-old Weimaraner named Corby near Suicide Hill on January 12.  He mistook the dog for a coyote.

Police say Huot told them that because of low light conditions, he did not see the yellow vest and orange collar Corby was wearing.

The Ishpeming Police Department says that Huot put Corby in his vehicle to take him to the vet, but he was already dead.

Huot will be in court for a pretrial on February 4.
