Lady Lions basketball adds two U.P. Players

Hancock, MI – Finlandia University women’s basketball coach Terry Klemett has announced that Ontonagon’s Brooke Turin and Watersmeet’s Michaela Burke and have committed to continue their education and basketball careers at Finlandia University starting in the 2014-2015 season.

Turin is a 5’6” guard from Ontonagon where he averaged 18.8 points, 9 rebounds, 3.5 steals, and 3.5 assists per game in her senior season for the Gladiators.  She was also named Copper Country Conference most valuable player, 1st Team All-Conference, and 2014 All-UP 1st Team Class D.

“Brooke is a very good point guard. She knows how to win and her intensity and work ethic are unmatched,” said coach Klemett. “Her court vision and play making abilities make her very tough to guard and will be a huge asset to my program.”

Burke, who will be joining her sister Marissa at Finlandia, averaged 14.6 points, 8 rebounds, 6.9 assists, and 4 steals per game for the Nimrods during the 2013-14 season. She was a member of the Porcupine Mountain Conference 1st Team All-Conference in 2012-13 and 2013-14 and was a 2014 All-UP Class D special mention.

“Michaela is very good defensively and has a huge upside to her game,” said coach Klemett. “She knows the game very well; I really believe she is going to surprise a lot of people on the basketball court.”
