Singing and dancing to the weather

“SINGING and DANCING up a STORM!” was the theme Wednesday night for Northern Michigan University’s Lake Effect Show Choir’s performance.

Weather was in the spotlight as songs and dances were coordinated with different types of atmospheric conditions, from Singin’ in the Rain and It’s Raining Men to Frosty the Snowman and Baby It’s Cold Outside.

The show choir took the opportunity to highlight the wide range of weather the Upper Peninsula experiences throughout the year, and had a chance to poke-fun at the long winter.

“I think some of the songs are more on the cheesy-cutesy side, like the Frosty the Snowman medley is definitely a little more tongue-and-cheek,” Lake Effect Show Choir member Sabrina Wheeler said.

“I just think it’s kind of exciting since the winter’s been so intense this year, I think it’s kind of fun we’re incorporating that into our show and our whole audience is totally going to be able to relate to us when we’re singing about it.”

It was a full house for the show as guests were able to snack on appetizers during the performance. Lake Effect Show Choir has another performance Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. in the University Center.  Tickets for table seating are sold out, but there are some general admission tickets still available.
