State trooper injured while chasing suspect
A trooper from the Iron Mountain Post of the Michigan State Police was injured early Friday morning during the pursuit of a suspect. According to police, the trooper was responding to the report of a suspicious situation on Genesee Street in Iron River around 12:15 a.m.
Police say the trooper arrived on scene and discovered that a large front window of a business had been broken. Following a blood trail leading away from the scene, the trooper was able to track the suspect to a residence a few blocks from the business.
When the trooper arrived, the suspect – a 30-year-old Iron River man – fled from the home. A foot chase ensued for several blocks. During the pursuit, the trooper sustained minor injuries from a fall, but was able to catch and arrest the suspect.
The trooper was treated and released. The suspect was taken to Northstar Health Systems for treatments of his injuries that he sustained from allegedly breaking the window. The suspect is currently lodged in the Iron County Jail, and his name is being withheld pending arraignment.
The trooper was assisted by the Iron County Sheriff’s Department.
