Cub Scouts pick up trash
Since the winter snow has melted, trash is showing up everywhere from on the side of the road to outside of schools to on the ground in parks and playgrounds.
A group of Cub Scouts from Escanaba decided to help out a school that has been sponsoring them by picking up trash littered throughout the grounds.
Cub Scout Pack 414 picked up trash and litter at Holy Name Catholic School in Escanaba Monday night for a service learning project.
The service project gives kids a chance to lend a hand in the community by helping others.
“Cub scouting is about having fun and learning things, but it’s also about responsibility and being a good citizen,” James Lake, Cub Master of Pack 414, said. “Having the boys come out here and do this public service project is part of their education as Cub Scouts.”
The scouts picked up trash outside of the school, including the playground. They found scraps of paper, plastic and other items. To protect their skin, the scouts wore gloves, and made sure to let adults pick up anything sharp or dangerous.
Pack 414 picked up over a dozen grocery-sized bags full of trash.
