The 2021 Republic Sportsmen’s Fishing Tournament kicks off tomorrow and the festivities started tonight.

Jim Brennan, Republic Supervisor, said Republic’s Annual fishing Derby is held on the Michigamme River each year on third weekend of July. It starts tonight at 7 pm. There’s a parade and there will be a band afterwards. At night we’ll have a bonfire at 10 pm and the fireworks will start at 10:30. It’ll be a great fireworks display. The Fishing Derby starts at 6 am tomorrow.

 

It’s a Multiday Tournament that’s Open to the Public and the anticipated boat count is 150. Entry Fee is $20.00 for people 17 years and older and $5.00 for people 16 years and under.

Fishers of all ages set off in boats on the Michigamme River tomorrow at 6 am till 9 pm. It resumes Sunday at 7am and ends at 3 pm.

 

Jim Brennan added that everyone can come out to enjoy the fireworks. You don’t have to be in the Fishing Derby. Great times and live music and it’s sponsored by the Republic Sportsmen’s Club. There will be a $1,000.00 prize for the biggest walleye and it’s usually caught Saturday morning every year.

 

Pike, perch, trout, Crappie, and Rock Bass can also net participants cash prizes.

On Sunday, Raffles and prizes will be handed out while campers enjoy the post-tournament barbecue.
