Ontonagon County landfill fire under investigation

 

The cause of a large fire at an Ontonagon county landfill is still under investigation.

More than 30 firefighters worked for 8 hours late Thursday into early Friday to contain the ten– thousand–square–yard fire.

Four agencies and eleven pieces of large equipment were involved in the effort to put out the fire which began at the K&W landfill.

Officials say the  trash was estimated to be 20 feet deep.

Firefighters used an infrared drone to pinpoint hotspots at the fire scene.

Water tenders shuttled more than 100,000 gallons of water to the location to put out the blaze.

Officials said no one was injured during the fire.
