MARQUETTE — After making a comeback in recent years, one organization is inviting more people to join their ranks.

The League of Women Voters held their first annual meeting earlier tonight, with a look back on a successful year, and an invitation for new members.

“The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization, that neither supports nor opposes political candidates,” said Darlene Allen, Chairperson for the League. “Our primary purpose is voter education and defending democracy. We work really hard to make sure that voting laws are established and followed, that things are fair, that people have access to voting, and we work very hard to educate the voters.”

Membership to the league is open to anyone, man or woman, 16 years of age or older.

Right now, membership for students is absolutely free.

The league hosts a City Commissioner Candidate Forum, which is open for people to ask questions for the 9 candidates for office, in order to make a better decision come election.
