Ishpeming celebrates Labor Day with parade downtown

ISHPEMING — Monday was Labor Day, and there was no better way to celebrate then to watch the 29th Annual Labor Day Parade Festival in downtown Ishpeming!

The Marquette Alger Community Labor Council and the U.P. Regional Labor Federation hosted the fun afternoon. The picnic and rally at Lake Bancroft Park afterwards included live music and children’s activities, as well as speeches from local union leaders and endorsed candidates.

This year’s theme was “Still Standing, Still Strong,” and all the floats passing by displayed that idea proudly.

“It’s an accomplishment for the community – that’s what I feel, said Marquette/Alger Community Labor Council Chair, Rich Helgren. “It’s a good event about families. Why do we go to work every day? We go to make a paycheck so we can take care of our families – our communities are family.”

According to Helgren, the event has seen growth over the last couple of years.
