MARQUETTE — The Marquette Area Public School Education Foundation is awarding over $150,000 to this year’s graduating high school seniors, and Tuesday night, they held a ceremony to honor those students.

116 of the 250 graduating students from Marquette Senior High School, who requested assistance for continuing education, are receiving a scholarship. At their summer retreats, the MAPSEF Board made it a priority to work towards the goal of having the capability to give a scholarship to every senior.

Three new scholarships honoring longtime Marquette community members will be awarded at this year’s ceremony, including one in memory of late mayor, Tom Baldini.

“Tonight will be the first one we give for Tom Baldini,” said MAPSEF Board President, Judy Vonck. “He was on our board, and was an integral part of why we were successful enough this year to have a scholarship for everyone who asked for one.”
