Suspicious calls received for donations to high school football teams

ISHPEMING — Ishpeming Public Schools is letting the public know about suspicious calls a local business has received requesting donations to area high school football teams.

The Superintendent’s Office says the district was notified by a local business Tuesday morning that an anonymous caller had contacted the business, claiming to be collecting donations for the Munising football team. Within an hour, the business says it received a second call requesting a donation for the Ishpeming football team.

The business owner felt the calls were very suspicious, and the caller would not identify themselves or leave contact information.

The Ishpeming Public School District wants to clarify that they have not made any such calls and are not soliciting donations via telephone contact. ABC 10 contacted the Superintendent of Munising Public Schools, who also confirmed that their district does not solicit such donations via telephone.

Anyone with questions or who would like to donate to the Ishpeming Hematites football team can contact the Ishpeming Superintendent’s Office directly at (906) 485-5501 Ext. 131.
